Write a four-phrase melody that matches the below criteria:
● 8 to 16 bars long (2 pts)
● In a major key (1 pt)
● Uses the following musical elements correctly:
○ Key signature (1 pt)
○ Clef (1 pt)
○ Tempo Marking (1 pt)
○ At least one instance of a dotted rhythm (1 pt)
○ Correct number of beats per measure (1 pt)
○ At least 3 different note durations (whole, half, quarter, eighth, etc.) (1 pt)
○ Both notes and rests. (1 pt)
Your first phrase will start on the first scale degree of your selected key. (2 pts)
Your second phrase will contrast with the first phrase. (2 pts)
Your third phrase will be a slight embellishment of your first phrase. (2 pts)
Your fourth phrase will conclude your melody and end on the same note on which you
started. (2 pts)
You may use a notation program (recommended) or neatly write out by hand. Your piece
must be clearly legible. (2 pts)
